Big Weekend Ahead
Alright, ya’ll.
I’ve hyped up this week in a few newsletters and it’s finally upon us: the 2019 Solheim Cup! I would encourage you to check out all of the social media buzz happening around Scotland for both squads, Europe and the United States. The United States is going for three in a row and Europe is looking to defend their home soil. Here’s who I recommend following over the next four to five days for all the fun, behind-the-scenes content that will give you a taste of what this event is all about.

Any of the player or captain social media accounts! Some I know who are pretty active on Instagram and Twitter specifically: Angel Yin, Morgan Pressel, Danielle Kang, Marina Alex, Mel Reid, Bronte Law and Azahara Munoz.
You can tell the players are having a lot of fun so far. Thankfully, Angel Yin can rest easy after her clubs were lost on the journey over to Scotland. Yikes! She was close to not having very much fun. Check out my tweet of the week for more on that.
The other major buzz was that Stacy Lewis, who was one of Juli Inkster’s Captain’s picks, withdrew to back injury and Ally McDonald will take her spot. That means there’s yet another rookie in the mix for the United States—six total! Coming in, it seems like it was communicated to Ally ahead of time that this might end up being the situation. She traveled over with the team as the 13th player, but will now be subbed in to replace Lewis and Lewis will be allowed to stick around.
The Gala took place last night and as I type this out, the Opening Ceremonies are going on. I will say it seems like the players are treated like royalty during Solheim Cup week, and rightfully so! Gleneagles looks beautiful from the inside out, and the build-up to tomorrow is awesome to see even from behind a computer or cellphone. What everyone really talks about, though, is the first tee. It will be loud. And I know the live coverage on Golf Channel is really early, but you wouldn’t be disappointed if you woke up just for that tomorrow! Laura Davies, one of the most storied golfers of all-time, even said it’s terrifying as a player, but you get used to it. Luckily for Team Europe, the chants will be in their favor and for the United States, perhaps some heckling.
Let’s not forget how you can tune into the action starting bright and early tomorrow morning either—thanks a lot, Europe time. Tomorrow (Sept. 13) you can watch live from 3 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Golf Channel, Saturday you can watch from 3 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Golf Channel and on Sunday (the final day) you can watch from 6:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Golf Channel.
Who will be up watching with me? By the way, can I just add how awesome it is that there will be 30 hours of live coverage this year? Well done, Golf Channel. A lot of events on the LPGA throughout the season are tape delayed, which honestly really stinks for fans. I can’t stay off Twitter as it is so I just get my updates that way, on top of following the live leaderboard. It’s certainly better than nothing, but it just doesn’t have the same effect as when you’re watching something that’s already happened/you can easily find out the outcome.

Five at The IX: Bronte Law
I put a different spin on this week’s interview and asked some fun questions to Solheim Cup rookie, Bronte Law. It’s short but definitely entertaining. I saw a quote from Laura Davies that led me to asking questions like this. The media asked her what she thought about the Americans being favored and she responded with: “For the Captain and the rest of us, it’s very important we win it, but not for any other reason than we want to win and we don’t want the Americans to do their three-peat they keep going on about.” I’m personally a big fan of the banter that goes on between countries during and leading up to events like this, so I thought I’d bring it to you this week!
Q: What are your thoughts on the Americans talking about a three-peat?
Law: I think that they are obviously very hopeful of that, but the reality is we have a lot of players on our team playing some really good golf. I think it’s wishful thinking on their behalf and we’re going to do everything we can so that that isn’t the case.
Q: Who is the most intimidating player on Team Europe?
Law: Probably Suzann (Pettersen). Just because it’s Suzann.
Q: Who is the best trash talker on Team Europe?
Law: Definitely Mel Reid (Vice Captain) or Suzann.

Q: Who would give the best/most inspiring Solheim Cup victory toast?
Law: I would like to say I would do a good job of that. Depends how much I’ve had to drink.
Q: How will you celebrate a team Europe win?
Law: Oh my gosh I don’t know. I’m scared for that. I would love to get a little mini car with a bottle of champagne.
